LSA Agreement Protects Funding for Local Communities
When the General Assembly authorized expanded gaming in Pennsylvania, they required a portion of the revenue generated to be dedicated to the host counties and the municipalities to account for the additional costs incurred, such as transportation infrastructure, police and emergency services, and debt payments for various community projects. The Local Share Account (LSA) grant program was also created to help with community and economic development projects. Unfortunately, a state Supreme Court ruling invalidated that portion of the law last year, jeopardizing this critical funding.
While lawmakers debate ways to address this problem, the Meadows Racetrack and Casino recently announced an agreement with the Washington County Board of Commissioners to keep this funding stream flowing to the community. The LSA funding does tremendous good for the region, and I am thankful that all parties were able to come to an agreement to ensure this funding remains available.
I remain hopeful that lawmakers can come together on an agreement to restore LSA funding on a permanent basis when we return to Harrisburg next month.

The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Washington (RACW) has released LSA application information for 2018 and is encouraging eligible municipalities and non-profit groups to apply. The application deadline is October 4.
Eligible uses for LSA funding include economic development projects, community improvement projects, public interest projects and job training. More information is available online at http://www.racw.net/washington-county-lsa/.

Around the 46th District
I have enjoyed the opportunity to attend a number of noteworthy community events in recent weeks. Several of these events are detailed below.
I had a great time meeting some of the young people who were showing their animals at the livestock auction at the 219th Washington County Fair.
It was an honor to offer remarks at the Monongahela 'You are Never Alone' event, which demonstrated the community’s support for individuals who are recovering from addiction.
I was honored to participate in the Greene County Civil Air Patrol Squadron 606 cadet promotion celebration, where I presented a certificate of recognition to Chase Hixenbaugh, the first Cadet from Squadron 606 to be promoted to the rank of Cadet Staff Sergeant.
I had the pleasure of presenting a Senate Citation honoring the Borough of East Washington on the 125th anniversary of their founding.
I had a great time at the opening of the PONY League World Series. This international event brings baseball players from around the world to the Lew Hays PONY Field in Washington Park and is a great way to showcase our region to a wide audience.
