Visiting With the 193rd Special Operations Wing

I recently had the honor of visiting the 193rd Special Operations Wing in Middletown. The 193rd maintains the only airborne psychological operations broadcasting platform for the entire U.S. military.

Local “Keystone Boys” visit Capitol

I was pleased to meet with Robert Hays of Butler and Dominic Deluca of Harrison City who recently visited the State Capitol with the American Legion’s Keystone Boys State Program. The program is intended to give young people the opportunity to learn more about Pennsylvania government.

PENNDOT Issuing New Driver’s License, ID Cards

PENNDOT recently started issuing new driver’s licenses and ID cards with enhanced security features. The new products will be phased in over the next four-year renewal cycle and will replace existing products.

The new cards are not REAL ID-compliant. PENNDOT anticipates that REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and ID cards will be available upon request in 2019.

The cards have enhanced security features, which improve fraud prevention and protect from counterfeiting and alteration including:

  • Larger primary portrait and smaller ghost portrait
  • 2D barcode, which contain data from the front of the card unique to the cardholder
  • Laser perforation — The keystone outline with "PA" is embedded into the cardstock and can be observed by holding the card up to any light source
  • Laminate — Each card is laminated with an optically-variable pattern with the state motto, "Virtue, Liberty, Independence;" Keystone outline; and "1787," the year when the U.S. Constitution was ratified by Pennsylvania.

In addition to those changes, the magnetic strip has been eliminated on the back of the cards.

Unpaid Toll Violations May Result in Registration Suspension

As of August 4, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will be able to request that PENNDOT suspend registrations of vehicles with unpaid toll violations totaling $500 or more.

Before the law takes effect, a partial amnesty program will allow motorists with toll violations that have not been placed with a collection agency to settle by paying all tolls for any violations or invoices, and the Commission will waive all administrative fees. More information is available at:
