2nd Annual  Northampton County Fireman’s Memorial Service

I am hosting my Second Annual Northampton County Fireman’s Memorial Service on Saturday, May 13 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Dryland United Church of Christ (4415 Newburg Road, Nazareth). This event is open to the public. The Fireman’s Memorial Service will honor the lives of seven Northampton County firefighters who passed away over the last year. This memorial service is an opportunity for the public to join with our many area fire departments to reflect on the many years of selfless service these firefighters gave to help keep our communities safe. I would encourage all to attend to honor these brave firefighters who are gone but not forgotten. For further information or to learn more about the event, please contact my office at 610-863-1200.

Identify Signs Early to Prevent Tick-Borne Illness

Pennsylvania leads the nation in Lyme disease cases, with 7,351 confirmed cases in 2015 - or nearly a quarter of all U.S. cases. Preliminary numbers show an increase in 2016, and the mild winter meant an early start to tick activity in 2017. Lyme disease is often transmitted through the bite of an infected blacklegged tick, also known as a deer tick. Lyme disease is treatable, but there is no cure. I recently signed onto a letter asking the Senate Appropriations Committee to support including funding in this year's budget to begin implementation of the 16 recommendations made by the Task Force on Lyme Disease and Related Tick-Borne Diseases. These areas focus on education and awareness, prevention and surveillance. For more information on how you can protect yourself and your loved ones from tick-borne illnesses, click here.

DCED Deputy Secretary Visits Penn Stroud Hotel

It was a pleasure joining Carrie Lepore - DCED Deputy Secretary for Marketing, Tourism and Film - at the site of the Penn Stroud Hotel in Stroudsburg. With state economic development funding assistance, the Hotel is well on its way to being restored to a position of prominence in the Borough of Stroudsburg and will once more resume its place as an anchor on Main Street. We toured the project site and spoke with the owners and contractors about the progress being made. This is an exciting project for the area and we are thankful at the steps the owners have taken to preserve this landmark for the next generation.
