Senator Mario Scavello

Happy July 4th!

I hope you have wonderful Independence Day, as we celebrate the birth of our great nation.

At a time when our differences seem to get all the attention, it’s important to remember we are a united people, fortunate to live in a prosperous land that remains a force for good in the world.

Have a fun, safe July 4th. May God bless America.

4th of July Safety Tips

As you celebrate, please keep in mind that fireworks send nearly 12,000 Americans to emergency rooms each year, and start an average of 18,500 fires across the U.S. Feel free to share these safety tips for a safe celebration.

According to PennDOT data, last year there were 293 alcohol-related crashes resulting in eight fatalities over the July 4th holiday period. The Pennsylvania State Police and local law enforcement will be conducting checkpoints and roving patrols to reduce those numbers this year.

PA Fish & Boat “Fish for Free Day”

The second Fish for Free Day in Pennsylvania will be held Tuesday, July 4. Fish-for-Free Days allow anyone – residents and non-residents – to legally fish in Pennsylvania without a fishing license. On Tuesday, no fishing license is needed to fish in Pennsylvania’s waterways. All other fishing regulations apply.

You can borrow equipment from dozens of fishing tackle loaner sites across the state. Many of the sites are located at state parks, along with some county parks and public libraries. More information is available on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, including interactive maps, regional fishing reports and tips on fishing fundamentals. Fishing licenses can be purchased online at
